I read the article about teaching copyright to students. Basically it stressed that, although kids know a lot about technology, they're not too savvy about how to utilize copyrighted material.

  1. I don't think they understand the need to honor copyright. They've probably never created something that they wouldn't want other people to steal. They don't know the authors/creators so they don't feel any guilt taking from a faceless person on the Internet.

  2. I agree I don't think students think that what is on the internet may belong to anyone. I think they think is there for them to use.

  3. I agree that many students don't understand and want to be bothered with citing. Too many think that whatever is on the Internet should be available to anyone to use anytime and it should be free. They really have mastered the process of copy and paste.

  4. Students today have no concept of ownership or if they do they find ways of stealing through other sites, for example the music industry. To them the concept of free applys to everything. I don't know if students would know how to give credit where credit is due or how to use copywritten material in an approved way.
